7 left parties form Ganatantrik Juktafront

Seven left political parties on Saturday at a national convention in Dhaka launched a new political alliance titled Ganatantrik Juktafront with the aim of a democratic transition of Bangladesh.

The Left Democratic Alliance, a combine of six left political parties, and the Bangladesh Jasod organised the LDA coordinator and Socialist Party of Bangladesh general secretary Bazlur Rashid Firoz at the convention in his introductory speech said that country was facing a political crisis and a democratic transition of the country was required immediately to overcome the crisis.

‘We have, therefore, taken an initiative to form a new political alliance of left and democratic political forces to form an alternative political platform for an early democratic transition of the country,’ said Bazlur Rashid.

Communist Party of Bangladesh general secretary Abdullah Al Kafee read out the draft declaration at the event where he announced that name of new the alliance — Ganatantrik Juktafront.

He called on all the left and democratic political forces to join the alliance for an early democratic transition of the country.

Dhaka University professor emeritus Serajul Islam Choudhury appreciated the formation of the new alliance and hoped that it would work for a democratic and socialist transition of Bangladesh society to establish the rights of the people.

Former CPB president Mujahidul Islam Selim said that holding the next general elections in February was essential for a democratic transition.

He called on all the left and democratic political forces to unite to save the country from the hands of undemocratic forces.
